Lapatinib is a medication used to treat advanced hormone-related breast cancer that has progressed or spread after treatment with other cancer medicines. It is a dual tyrosine kinase inhibitor which interrupts the HER2/neu and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathways. Lapatinib works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply, which helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells.
